I started painting as a landscape painter because of a sense of awe and identification with the land itself. Like the Northern romantic painters who sought the supernatural in the natural; I, too, seek that spiritual connection with nature. Having spent many hours painting outside on sight, I now divide my painting time between en plein air painting and time in my studio either developing those paintings or creating new works which are inspired by the work outside.
I was born in
Madera,
Califronia,
but spend most of my childhood in Dallas, Texas. Childhood memories of the brown hills of California and the big skies of Texas drive me west, and I spend much of my time painting in and around Jackson, Wyominga place where my soul is fed.
Education includes: BA in Elementary Education, Austin College, Sherman, Texas; A in Art, Auburn University, Montgomery, Alabama, MFA in painting, American University, Washington, D.C.
