JOSHUA F. GOMEZ is an emerging photographer and artist.  He is an honors graduate of George Mason University located in Fairfax, VA, USA with a photography concentrated BA in Art and Visual Technologies.  His work consists primarily of traditional black and white silver gelatin prints and alternative process prints mounted on intricately hand-cut mat board.  Compositional elements focus on order and design while subject emphasis is on societal structures including social class and gender roles as well as relationships between mental illness and artistic expression.  His current work delves deep into the challenging balance of living functionally and suffering from Bi-Polar Disorder.  Though often casually used in everyday conversation, Bi-Polar Disorder is extremely debilitating to those going through it and if untreated may result in serious problems.  Diagnosed in the fall of 2008, Joshua has continued trying to use his work as a motivational tool to get through each day.

In addition to solo exhibitions, his prints have been selected for display in juried shows throughout the United States, including California, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.  In 2007, he was awarded the 2007 Scholarship for Student Photographers sponsored by the Arts Club of Washington.  In January of 2008, Joshua was selected to co-construct “Efficere,” the largest installation in the history of the Petersburg Regional Arts Center located in Petersburg, VA.  In 2009, he was awarded a membership to Touchstone Gallery, one of the leading District of Columbia co-op galleries, of which he remains an active member.  Joshua F.
