Artist Statement
Conveying what is happening within an artist's mind and soul needs words; that does not come easily. Communication comes with the visual, for me; when paintbrush is in hand, I feel I begin the dialogue between myself and the audience.
My brain works a bit like a photographer; the image captured by a camera has always been a huge influence on the painted work that I produce. That fleeting expression of a subject- the frozen ‘moment in time’, captured by the camera, is the perfect point of reference; I join with the image envisioned.
As a portrait and figure painter, working between 'thought' and 'captured image', the painting evolves.
I have to confess that I love the play with convention and the descriptive title. It's a single package; title-image-content. The route into the work is there for those who wish to enter.
