PAULA LANTZ

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

These paintings are part of a continuing body of figure paintings I have created over the years—with improvisations on the theme.

Using the energy of intense color and collage combined, the abstracted figures reflect mysteries in our personal, emotional and spiritual life.  The figures are large and gestural.  Their physical attitudes indicate direction:  love, hate, happiness, sorrow, desire…all parts of  the "human condition."

My visual language taps into personal and intuitive elements important to my work:  bold color relationships, simple forms, and the abstract quality of the painted and collaged surface itself.  Layers of paint and collage are used as metaphor to our life  experiences.
