Nancy Novick's works are based on recurring geometric shapes that become muted and more ambiguous as the painting evolves. Shapes, colors and textures fade and re-emerge in response to the tensions and harmonies of the evolving work. Spontaneity and struggle often merge. Her paintings are intensely personal, inspired by her own experiences. But her abstract style and use or rich textures, punctuated by enigmatic forms and lines, invite viewers to respond from their own internal landscapes.
