“The Magic of Color”

by TORY COWLES

Opening Reception:
Friday, May 9, 6 - 8:30 pm

#433

Tory Cowles' large abstract paintings are full of rich powerful colors. They seem to tell a story, inviting you in to follow the movement suggested by dancing lines, incorporated pieces of fabric and paper, and unexpected juxtapositions of color. Her work explores the dynamic between space and form, color and texture, converging in aesthetically intriguing, vibrant canvases.

Over the years, Cowles has worked in clay sculpture, spray paints, wood carving, mixed media, and stonework. Her latest works exhibit the quality of masonry, with transitions between shapes and colors acting as “cement” between the stones in a wall.

Tory Cowles received her BA from Bennington College. Over the years she worked on various architectural projects, created art in various mediums like sculpture, clay, constructions and installations. She had had quite a few solo shows and participated in a number of group exhibitions around the area. Her work can be found in multiple private and corporate collections around the United States .
