CAROLYN MARSHALL WRIGHT
About the Artist
Carolyn Marshall Wright is an acrylic painter and watercolorist based in Mclean, Virginia. She exhibits her work frequently in the Mid-Atlantic area, having also been featured in several art magazines. Wright is a past president of Potomac Valley Watercolorists and a Signature Member of the Virginia Watercolor Society. She has also been teaching art for 15 years.
Wright works in an intuitive manner, balancing spontaneity and control, discovering the piece as she creates it. The actual process of creation is as vital to her as the end result itself. Wright strives for authenticity, not sentimentality, attempting to express a highly personal and deeply spiritual viewpoint, all the while incorporating years of technical study of the formal aspects of painting. Wright began as a watercolorist, and still practices as such. However, once having mastered its rigors, she found herself reaching for something deeper than pure representation in her work, and turned to abstraction in acrylics and mixed media. From there, Wright experimented with merging abstraction and representation into uniquely expressive pieces. In both process and product, Wright is always striving for truth, beauty, and hope.
