The Art of Words: Teen Poetry Workshop gives teens the opportunity to learn more about visual art by engaging with and writing poetry! Poetry is a fantastic tool to connect with the art and the people around us. The workshop will not only provide a space for teenagers to participate with the contemporary art of the local DC community but do so in a creative way by writing poems of their own.
The Art of Words is specifically designed to have teens learn the skills necessary for creating their own poetic works, inspired by their favorite pieces at Touchstone Gallery. Through observation and interaction, teens will explore how they personally relate to certain works of art, looking closely at the medium, materials and configuration of the pieces they select and then reflecting on their experience by writing poetry. Discovering the various works at Touchstone, attendees will have the chance to broaden how they look at and interpret art, understanding how poetry can be wonderful tool to inspire individuals to make sense of their personal connection to the art world!
Note: This event is for teens, aged 13-19. Younger children and older adults will not be admitted for participation, though parents (unaccompanied by younger children) are welcome as observers.
