July 1 - 31, 2016
Unscripted by Lina Alattar
Opening Reception: Friday, July 22, 6 - 8:30pm
Lina Alattar’s solo exhibition, Unscripted , explores the role of making mistakes in the creative process. Accidents, blurs, and imperfection are starting points that offer Lina the freedom to toil with paint and the chance for something new to emerge. This process contradicts our existing condition of perfection that can often lead to cold and sterile experiences. As we become more dependent on automated, machineproduced realities, we lose our comfort level with making the accidental work to our advantage.
By pouring and splattering paint, ink and spray paint, Lina welcomes the random coincidences as she constructs them into the composition. An improvisation of color, space, and linear qualities emerge and interact with each other. This act of allowing and control help develop surface and imagery. She finds structure amidst the chaos, knowing all too well how these accidents are inventions in their own right.
Alattar holds a BFA from Middle Tennessee State University. She continued her painting education in Italy through a studyabroad program, as well as The George Washington University. She currently has gallery representation at Touchstone Gallery.
