Veiled Consciousness
Touchstone Foundation for the Arts Emerging Artist Fellow (TFA) 501 c3 www.tfawdc.org (2015 - 2017)
Opening Reception: Friday, June 2, 6 - 8:30 pm
Putting the brushes aside in his first Solo Show in D.C, TFA Fellow, Lionel Daniels, paints with his hands to gain a deeper connection with his work.
In his show entitled Veiled Consciousness, Lionel's large and small figurative paintings explore the double consciousness as well as the veil worn by African Americans in the past as well as in the presence-- as expressed in W.E.B Dubois's Souls of Black Folk. Lionel's use of intense vibrant colors, thoughtful composition, and exuberant energy allow his figures to dominate the picture plane. Lionel, a Morehouse Man and Son of Oprah, from Atlanta moved to D.C. three years ago to further pursue his career in art. Whether painting live in front of large audiences or the solitude of his studio, Lionel creates an unforgettable experience of motion, painting and poetry. Not only is he a full time artist, but also an art teacher at Rocketship RISE Academy and sip and paint instructor at Uncork'd Art.
