Touchstone Gallery is excited to present painter Marcia Coppel’s newest exhibition Apart?? Together?? Coppel’s fresh paintings are based on her loose, whimsical drawings done spontaneously - “on the spot.” She eschews anatomical reality for whimsical bodily depictions emphasized by rich colors, venturing into caricature. Coppel is concerned with issues and themes of communication, isolation, laughter, hope and healing.
Colorful people in cafes or at the beach gaze at each other and talk intently. Others stare into space in their own worlds and seem to be floating or sitting without chairs. Some people are painted in duplicate or triplicate but in different colors. Some are sitting in a group without interaction. A cloud in the sky has a head resting on it. Faces appear on beach umbrellas. Faces resembling tattoos also appear on people. The effect is joyous.
