DREAMS by Claudia Samper

  • Touchstone Gallery 901 New York Avenue NW Washington D.C 20001 United States (map)

Flying Together

Opening Reception: Saturday, October 1 4:00 - 7:00 pm

Claudia Samper’s DREAMS is about the search for home–an urge to belong, a desire to open a window and let warm light in. She has always been interested in the different aspects that influence daily living, including contradictions, achievements, and relationships. Through different visual approaches and media, her career has continually explored these concepts.

All of Samper’s pieces in DREAMS are created from acrylic, oil pastels and graphite, and each piece sets a stage in which cartoon-like birds serve as the protagonists of a dream. These birds, through symbols, weave a story the dreamer longs to be real. The work is intuitive and playful, but also provides the viewer space to dialogue–provoking a feeling, a thought, or wonder.

Similar to previous work, Samper uses birds as a metaphor for people, stating “Birds, like humans, soar to new heights, search for where they belong, and settle down into their nests.”
