The body of work in Paula Lantz’s On a Romp! was produced between the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic and the brutal upheaval of January 6, 2021. Lantz created the works while listening to the news and podcasts in her studio; creating a new and strange painting experience, as her typical studio soundtrack is music.

The paintings combine intense color and collage. Splashing paint, layering collage, scraping, and repainting help keep the works dynamic. Lantz says “My visual language taps into personal and intuitive elements important to my work: bold color relationships, simple forms, and the abstract quality of the painted and collaged surface itself.”
