It started with a visit to an antique store. Robin Harris was totally taken with the uniqueness of the single use serving pieces from long ago: a tomato server that is used to serve only tomatoes, berry spoons, vintage ice cream scoops. For her, there was another purpose: to be the delivery vehicles, the impetus for the motion in her acrylic paintings.
Serve with Abandon features the silver utensils that fascinated Harris, but they are a secondary to the food. Her focus is on the movement and textures of each edible subject matter. The observer is encouraged to complete the motions suggested—bending the rules of perspective to introduce subtle distortions and exaggerations that heighten the psychological impact of the imagery. Harris’s goal is to completely capture the viewer’s attention so that they become caught up in the moment becoming a part of the process.
