Diversely mixing the conscious and sub-conscious realm, Nihal Kececi, presents a series of impressionistic paintings in her January exhibition “Memories Matter”. A seamless grouping of poetically stylistic landscapes and figures displays a vivid yet subtle color palette.

There is power and vision behind these works, meant to stimulate both sides of the brain. Her work poses refreshing exploratory thought. Lively plays of brush strokes conflict and complement one another in what first seems to be a haphazard fashion, with a heavy blur, drip and scratch technique, very reminiscent of William Turner.

Employing a mode of loose freedom and exploratory abstraction Nihal asks us to reflect on our current visions of reality. As she states, “My best paintings are created when I allow my hands and mind to flow freely.” That same freedom is passed on to viewers, since no one piece is concretely representational. The viewer participates in creating the meaning of the art.

Her scenes opulently depict perception from the soul in as stunning hybrid between reality and metaphysics. Everyone can find an individual connection to what Kececi presents.
